I wanted to understand more about a real plate reverb.
EMT140 is it, a transducer (from audio/electrical to mechanical) makes a metal sheet vibrate. Another one (from movement to electrical/audio) gets the vibration.
Simple but effective, made and is still making a big slice of audio history.
So we got one built.
Sounds physical, organic, real. Everybody should build one if space is enough.
This one costed about 300 euro.
We have the drawings available. Send an email to quintosardo at yahoo dot it if you want to build your own. You’ll get drawings and details about the other parts (transducers, amplification, equalization).
Our Verbtone software reverb came from this. I often go back to the real thing, though.
